Photo and description

The Parish Church of Treffen was consecrated in honor of St. Maximilian. Only the oldest part - the chapel of St. Michael - is oriented to the east. The main feature of the church is its location next to the former Pellinder mountain stream. This river has overflowed its banks more than once. A new nave was added to the chapel of St. Michael at right angles so that the entrance to the church would be protected by the building itself during the flood.

For the first time, the local church was mentioned in the annals of 876. In 1007 Treffen became part of the domain of Emperor Henry II. The oldest architectural details of the present temple - the nave wall and the tower foundation - date from the last third of the 12th century. In the middle of the 13th century, the tower was enlarged and the nave enlarged. In 1348 and 1690, the temple was badly damaged by devastating earthquakes. Therefore, in 1694, the Gothic vault of the temple was replaced by a flat ceiling, which led to the fact that the fresco depicting the Last Judgment, located on the wall of the tower, is no longer visible from the nave. In 1812, the interior of the church of St. Maximilian was rebuilt in the neoclassical style. At the same time, the high central altar and side altars of the church were created. They are decorated with figures of saints and paintings on religious themes.

The five-story bell tower adjoins the nave on the north side. It is crowned with a Gothic spire and has semicircular arched windows. To the north of the tower stands the former sacristy. There is also a staircase that leads to the tower.

The cemetery around the church was closed in 1905.
