Photo and description

Serra da Capivara National Park is located in the northeastern part of Brazil. First of all, it is famous for numerous monuments of prehistoric rock art. After archaeologists discovered rock paintings in the park, Serra da Capivara was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Based on the discovered remains, archaeologists suggested that the territory of the park was densely populated in the prehistoric era, and there was the largest peasant farm in ancient America.

The rock complex is a popular place for tourists. The drawings on the walls of these rocks date from around the 14th century. BC. For painting on the walls, the ancient people used natural dyes: white gypsum, red hematite, bone, coal. Ancient drawings, stories about animals and hunting belong to the Nordesti culture. Later, depicting bizarre lines and geometric shapes - the culture of Agresti. It has not yet been possible to decipher the latter. Primitive man left traces not only in the form of drawings, numerous grottoes in the park have traces of artificial processing.

The remains of ancient people refute the theory of the Asian origin of the inhabitants of America. It used to be thought that primitive people entered the North American continent through the Bering Strait 38,000 years ago, and into South America only 13,000 years ago. Now, finds in Serra da Capivara indicate that people lived in South America already 46,000 years ago. These discoveries were made entirely by accident. Initially, on the territory of Serra da Capivara, scientists were attracted by certain types of trees and cacti in the form of candelabra.

But the park is known not only for the remains of primitive settlements, but also for its rich fauna. A large number of rare animals live in the Serra da Capivara. These include giant armadillos, cougars, snakes, apes, alligators, panthers, false vampires, small parrots, and many more.
