Photo and descriptionThe Haji-Bairam Mosque was built in the 15th century on the ruins of a Byzantine church. Even earlier, there was a temple of Augustus, from which only the remains of the walls have survived, and on them the text of the will of the emperor Augustus was carved. Haji Bayram Wali, after whom the mosque is named, was the founder of the dervish order of Bayrami. He was buried in a mausoleum with a marble facade and a lead dome. The inner doors of the mosque have been replaced with copies, and the original is kept in the Ethnographic Museum of Ankara.
