Vinogradov Ivan Matveyevich is one of the outstanding scientists in the field of mathematics of our time. On September 14, 1986, the opening of the memorial house-museum of Academician IV Vinogradov took place, which was agreed with the Council of Ministers of the USSR. The Open Museum has become the only museum in the country dedicated to the mathematician.

During the lifetime of Vinogradov I.M. it was decided to restore the scientist's parental home in the city of Velikie Luki. Ivan Matveyevich actively supported the idea of restoration, invented by the museum staff, and even drew a plan for the structure of the house, describing in detail and accurately the interior of the dining room, living room, rooms of his sisters and father, as well as all the antique furniture of his childhood.

1982 the house of Vinogradov I.M. has been completely restored. Soon after that, the memorial museum of the famous mathematician was located in the house, which was located next to the square, in which there is a bronze bust of the scientist.

After the death of the talented mathematician, the Steklov Institute, whose head Vinogradov was for fifty years, handed over unique collectibles of original documents, as well as various personal belongings of Ivan Matveyevich. The museum's memorial fund includes documents of the academician relating to different periods of his life, including not only domestic but also foreign awards, some editions of his scientific works, as well as some part of Ivan Matveyevich's personal home library. In addition, various gifts for anniversaries, documents and objects that clearly show the hobbies of this great man were of no small value.

Scientific activity of the I.M. Vinogradov Memorial Museum characterized by a historical and biographical component with some fragmentary additions to memorial interiors. Initially, the authors of the project developed the idea of a complete restoration of the Vinogradov youth home, but soon it was decided not to carry out this kind of work until the end. Most of these materials are related to the Leningrad, St. Petersburg, Moscow and Perm periods of the life of the outstanding scientist.
Ivan Matveyevich lived in his parents' house during 1902-1910. It was in this house that his numerous relatives came to visit, who were representatives of the ancient Velikie Luki dynasties Novsky-Vinogradov. In this city, three children of the Vinogradov family received secondary education, and young Ivan also developed a passion for the exact sciences, which was accurately noticed by his parents and directed in the right direction.

Today the house-museum of Academician I. Vinogradov. has in stock a unique collection of memorial items characterized by museum value. There are about 6 thousand documents and items provided by the museum, the largest number of which was transferred by the Mathematical Institute.
