The residence of President Cheonwadae is also called the Blue House, because "cheongwade" in Korean means "pavilion covered with blue tiles."

The Blue House is the official residence of the President of South Korea. More specifically, the Blue House is a complex of buildings made in traditional Korean architectural style.

The residence was built on the site of the picturesque royal garden during the Joseon era. The residence includes the Main Office, President's Apartment, State Reception Hall, Chunchugwan, Press Office and Secretariat, Guest House and palaces. The total area on which the buildings are located is approximately 250 thousand sq. M. Also adjacent to the residence is Nokjiwon (Green Grass) - this is the territory where the presidents planted trees with their own hands.
