The picturesque Greek town of Veria is famous for its rich cultural and historical heritage. The sights of the city and its fascinating centuries-old history attract a huge number of tourists from different countries every year.

During the Byzantine era, the city flourished and was an important commercial and cultural center. Most of the ancient temples, perfectly preserved in Veria to this day, were built by the Byzantines. It is not surprising that the magnificent Byzantine Museum, which opened its doors to visitors in 2002, is considered one of the main attractions of the city of Veria. It is located in the historic district of Kyriotissa in an old three-story building dating back to the early 20th century, where the "Marcos Mill" was once located.

The exposition of the Byzantine Museum presents a huge number of interesting exhibits of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine eras. Here you can see a magnificent collection of portable icons (including double-sided ones), stunning frescoes, fragments of mosaic floors, ancient manuscripts, important historical documents and the first printed books. Also of considerable interest are ceramics, Byzantine coins, woodcuts and much more.

Today, the Byzantine Museum of Veria is one of the best such museums in Greece. It was created with the aim of popularizing the history of the city among the younger generation, or rather such an important milestone as the Byzantine era. In addition to the permanent exhibition entitled "Veria - Part of the Byzantine Empire", the museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions.
