The palace was built in 1747-1786 in the Rococo style for Queen Mary I and amazes with the perfection of its layout. Numerous palace halls are overflowing with a variety of artworks and decorated with mirrors. The magnificent Ambassadors' Hall was used for diplomatic audiences. The royal family is depicted on the ceiling of the hall. The elegant Throne Room is adorned with gilded Atlantean statues. Don Quixote's room gets its name from the murals depicting scenes from the life of this literary character.
The gardens surrounding the palace with gazebos, fountains and ponds stretch over many hectares.
