The Palace of the Marquis Fronteira is located in the northeastern part of the city, next to the Monsanto park. The building, built in 1640, is one of the most beautiful residences in Lisbon. The palace is often compared to an oasis in the middle of the city. Inside the palace, the walls of the rooms are decorated with decorative tiles of the 17th-18th centuries, fresco and oil paintings.

The palace is surrounded by grandiose Italian-style gardens, a total area of 5.5 hectares. On the territory of the gardens, surrounded by trees, there are fountains and many sculptures depicting mythological characters. Also on display are busts of Portuguese kings. Noteworthy is the Gallery of the Kings, which is located in the English Garden of the 17th century.

During the 18th century, the palace was restored more than once, and its premises expanded. Today the palace is the private property of the 12th Marquis of Fronteira, but guided tours of some of the rooms, the library and the garden are possible.

The palace is famous for the fact that both fences and terraces, not to mention the interiors, are decorated with amazing tiles on all kinds of themes. Inside the palace strikes with its luxury and elegance. In the first place is the Battle Hall, where the panels depict war episodes, and from three large windows overlooking the beautiful garden of Venus. The dining room is decorated with frescoes depicting Portuguese aristocrats. Here you can also see Delft tiles from the 16th century, depicting nature and landscapes.
