Malko Tarnovo is an ancient city in the southeastern part of Bulgaria near the border with Turkey.

Malko Tarnovo has a rich history. The Thracians were the first to settle in these places. The city was located not far from the capital of Byzantium - Constantinople, thanks to which its cultural and economic development took place quite quickly. The inhabitants of the Thracian city and neighboring settlements are considered descendants of the ancient Bulgarians - this is confirmed by the available historical documents and scientific research. The current Malko Tarnovo was founded in the late 16th - early 17th centuries.

On the territory of the city and in its surroundings there are many interesting sights, including those included in the list of "One Hundred National Tourist Sites in Bulgaria". As a result of archaeological excavations, many objects of particular importance and artifacts from different historical eras have been discovered here.

On the outskirts of Malko Tarnovo, two tombs were found, built of polished marble blocks - monuments of monumental architecture of the V-III centuries. BC e., giving an idea of the features of the burial of noble gentlemen. In the Strandja mountains, scientists have discovered a number of burials from the Roman period, including a large underground necropolis with 40 graves. The entire area around the city is literally dotted with ancient sanctuaries, dolmens, tombs, necropolises, etc.

Guests of Malko Tarnovo can visit the Historical Museum, which was created in 1983. Museum exhibitions are located in four buildings of the Renaissance, each of which is a monument of culture and architecture. Six exhibitions feature exhibits found during recent archaeological expeditions, as well as a collection of samples of icon painting by Strandzha masters, an ethnographic collection, an exposition dedicated to the peculiarities of the flora and fauna of the local region, and much more. The Lapidarium is located in the courtyard of the museum.

About 20 buildings in Malko Tarnovo have been declared cultural monuments, including the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in 1754 and the Church of the Holy Trinity in 1868 - excellent examples of Bulgarian temple architecture. Inside the temples you can see wall paintings, carved iconostases, old icons.

Malko Tarnovo is a unique city-monument that will be interesting to everyone.
