Photo and description

The Taynitskaya Tower is located on the northern fortress wall of the Kazan Kremlin. It is the main entrance to the Kremlin from the northwest side of the Kremlin.

The Taynitskaya tower was erected in the 16th century on the site of the Nur-Ali tower, which was blown up during the siege of Kazan by the soldiers of Ivan the Terrible. The Taynitskaya Tower was built by Postnik Yakovlev and Ivan Shiryai. The tower was originally named Nikolskaya. The new name of the tower - Taynitskaya - is associated with an underground passage under this tower, which led to a water source and was destroyed by an explosion. The besieged khan's fortress received water from a secret source. There were also secret springs of water near the towers of the Moscow Kremlin: Zamoskvoretskaya, Vodovzvodnaya and Arsenalnaya. It was through the ruined Nur-Ali tower, in October 1552, after the capture of Kazan, Ivan the Terrible entered the fortress taken by his army.

Taynitskaya Tower was built almost at the same time as the Spasskaya Tower. In the Taynitskaya tower, a complex articulated passage has been preserved. The same passage that originally existed in the Spasskaya Tower has not been preserved.

The tower acquired its present architectural appearance in the 17th century. Below is a massive tetrahedral tier with a smaller and high quadrangle. The decoration and architectural decorations of the tower are rather modest. The upper tier is surrounded by a gulbische, from which the Kazanka River, which flows into the Volga and Zarechye, is clearly visible. The tower has a wooden hipped roof. There is a guardhouse on top of the tent. Above its cover, the World Heritage Committee sign rotates in the wind.

" Nur-Ali " in Russian transcription sounded like " Muraleev. '' On the upper tier of the tower there is a cafe called "Muraleevy Vorota" for tourists.
