The building of the Junker School is located in the western part of the Kazan Kremlin. It is located along the passage leading from the Spasskaya Tower to Taynitskaya. The Junker School was founded in 1866. The building was built in the 1840s by the architect Pyatnitsky. It served as a barracks for the military school, which was transformed into the Junker School.

The building was originally two-story. The third floor was added in Soviet times. The building was built of bricks in the Pavlovsk Empire style and plastered. The entire first floor of the building was rusticated. The platbands are wedge-shaped and have marked key stones. Three entrances to the building are decorated with metal awnings. The canopies are made by Chebaksin forging with virtuoso weaving into the forging of floral motifs from roses and cornflowers.

Inside the building there are complex three-flight flights of stairs, which rest on brick arches of the vaults.

In 1997, the superstructure of the Soviet period was removed from the courtyard facade. The building was completely renovated in 2001-2005. On the south side of the building of the Junker School, with its end facing the passage, is the Manege building, built in the 1880s. The design of the building was carried out in St. Petersburg and took into account all the features of the terrain and the architecture of the surrounding buildings. The building served as a drill arena for exercises.

Now the building of the Junker School houses exhibitions of three museums: the Great Patriotic War, the Hermitage-Kazan Center and the National Picture Gallery. The exposition of the Museum of Nature of Tatarstan is being formed. In the Manege building, a repository and reading room of the Museum of Ancient Books and Manuscripts is being created.
