Photo and description

The Kostroma Regional Puppet Theater was founded in 1936 by a troupe of enthusiasts, consisting of six people. They did everything with their own hands: props, decorations, and dolls. The theater did not have a permanent building. The theater huddled either in the House of Pioneers, or in the Teacher's House, or in the Orlyonok cinema. In 1946 the puppet theater received its permanent residence. For the needs of the puppet theater, the building of the former people's reading room named after A.N. Ostrovsky, which was built in 1886 according to the project of I.V. Bryukhanov with donations from ordinary citizens and artists of the Alexandrinsky and Imperial Maly Theaters. The construction was initiated by the inspector of public schools M.E. Mikiforov.

During the First World War, this building housed a hospital. And in the 1920s, the Kostroma drama studio operated here, which was organized by the prominent Soviet director A.D. Popov. Later it was transformed into the Youth Theater. In the early 1980s, the building was reconstructed according to the project of I.Yu. Dashevsky.

In 1937, the post of chief director of the puppet theater was offered to A.G. Skripnichenko, a graduate of the Odessa Theater Studio. She headed the theater for nearly thirty years. She became not only the main director of the theater, but also a good teacher, organizer, and actress. With her arrival, new faces joined the collective, the puppetry technique, the decoration of performances, and performing skills were constantly growing.

Particularly difficult for the theater were the years of the war, then the puppeteers had to live in a barracks position. In the evenings they rehearsed and during the day they showed performances in hospitals and military units. The troupe transported all the equipment on sledges in winter and on carts in summer. The creative staff of the theater has noticeably decreased - many artists went to the front, some of them never returned. Those who stayed in the city worked with great dedication and creative energy, putting out about eight performances a year.

The work of the theater staff and their creative aspirations did not go unnoticed. In 1946 the Kostroma Puppet Theater received the highest rating at the All-Russian Review of Children's Theaters. In 1956, at the All-Union Festival of Children's Theaters, his performances "The Scarlet Flower" and "Cinderella", staged by A.G. Skripnichenko. and the artist Lebedeva V.I., were awarded a diploma. In 1966, the theater for its great contribution to the patriotic and aesthetic education of the young generation was included in the Book of Labor Glory of Kostroma.

Antonina Grigorievna Skripnichenko has always been surrounded by gifted people who cannot imagine themselves without activities in the puppet theater. These personalities include Valentina Ignatievna Lebedeva, the main artist of the tetra, because half of the success of a future performance always depends on the decoration of the performance - dolls and stage design. The Skripnichenko - Lebedeva duet all the time found extraordinary expressive artistic solutions for the performances, generated by his creative imagination puppets that aroused admiration and surprise, and her "creative children" - V.N. Noskov, N.S. Kazakova, L.V. Bykova, G.A. Nikiforova, V.A. Bredis, G. Ya. Mamentyev, and their colleagues became the property and pride of the puppet theater.

Since 1986, Vyacheslav Bredis, a student of A.G. Skripnichenko, has become the main director of the theater. and Honored Artist of the RSFSR, a multi-faceted actor of a wide creative range, who devotedly served the theater for more than half a century, developing the best creative traditions that have been created in the theater throughout its entire existence: musicality, emotionality, professionalism when working with a doll.

Vyacheslav Bredis has staged more than seventy performances. He is the author of 20 plays and over 30 New Year's interludes. Bredis has repeatedly been a laureate of the regional prize in the field of theatrical art. A.N. Ostrovsky; laureate of the city prize. D.S. Likhachev.
