Photo and description

Kiev Children's Puppet Theater is the oldest puppet theater in Ukraine. This theater was founded back in October 1927 as a division of the Kiev Theater for Children (now known as the Theater of the Young Spectator). V. Volomarskiy and I. Deeva were the initiators of the theater creation. The first performances staged on his stage were “Musicians” and “Old Parsley”.

In 1937, the theater received all-Union recognition, receiving awards for performances shown at the All-Union Puppet Festival. However, with the outbreak of World War II, the theater had to be curtailed. Only in 1946, after the liberation of Kiev, the Puppet Theater was able to return to its usual work, and this was done under the leadership of M. Tobilevich, the daughter of the famous theatrical figure I. Karpenko-Kary. The repertoire of the puppet theater was constantly replenished with new and exciting performances, for which the circle of authors with whom the theater artists collaborated systematically expanded. No less fruitful was the alliance with the most famous Ukrainian composers of that time I. Shamo, I. Karabits, V. Shapovalenko, A. Filippenko, Y. Shevchenko and others.

Despite the twists and turns, every now and then taking place in the country , now the theater continues its vigorous activity. It was on the initiative of this theater that International Puppet Theater Festivals began to be held in the early 90s of the XX century. During this time, theaters from Austria and Slovakia, Belgium and Canada, Japan and Sweden, Finland, China and other countries took part in these festivals. This allowed the festival to become one of the most prestigious in the world. The Kiev Puppet Theater itself continues to adequately represent its country and its unique art at numerous international theater festivals and forums held in different parts of the world.
