Assos description and photos - Greece: Kefalonia Island. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Assos. Photo and descriptionThe small resort village of Asos is one of the most picturesque and charming places on the island of Kefalonia. The village is located on the western coast, about 36 km from the capital of Argostolion, on a narrow isthmus, which is part of the small peninsula of the same name. Asos is a very small town, and its population is barely 100 people. Nevertheless, the warm hospitality of local residents, traditional Greek architecture, narrow streets and mountainous terrain overgrown with pines and cypresses attract lovers of a relaxing holiday here. Cozy cafes and taverns are located mainly on the city embankment and the main street of Asos. The main historical attraction of Asos is the Venetian castle, located on a steep rocky promontory. The once majestic fortification was built at the end of the 16th century. Its location was not chosen by chance, since the inaccessible natural rock was of great strategic importance, giving reliable protection and a good view of the water. Unfortunately, only the massive walls of the castle have been well preserved to this day, and the structures inside the fortress are in a deplorable state. A fairly good road leads to the main gate of the castle, which can be reached both by car and on foot. The top of the castle offers stunning panoramic views of the bay and surroundings. Not far from Assos is the "pearl of Kefalonia" - Myrtos beach, which is the owner of the so-called "Blue Flag of UNESCO". Asos is a great place for an unforgettable vacation. The warm gentle sun, crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea and stunning scenic landscapes of these places create a special atmosphere of comfort and coziness. You will definitely want to come back here again.
