Photo and description

The first Luxembourg City Theater was opened in 1869 in the building of the old Capuchin monastery, for a long time it remained the only theater in the city. By the end of 1958, a decision was made to build a new spacious building for the theater, and the Luxembourg city authorities announced a competition for the best project, the winner of which was the famous Parisian architect Alain Bourbonnet. Construction began in the fall of 1959, and in April 1964 the New Theater of Luxembourg was inaugurated. Subsequently, it was renamed the City Theater of Luxembourg, and already in 2003 it received its current name - the Grand Theater of Luxembourg.

Over time, it became obvious that the building had to be modernized in accordance with the existing standards and requirements for such structures. including from the point of view of security. The work on bringing the technical characteristics of the building to the established standards and equipping it with modern equipment was supervised by high-class German specialists - Kurt Gerling and Werner Arendt. The architectural appearance of the original building has remained unchanged.

Today, the Bolshoi Theater of Luxembourg is rightfully considered one of the best theaters in Europe, and its program is famous for its diversity - this is opera, various theatrical and dance performances, as well as concerts, festivals, etc. etc. In recent years, the theater has actively collaborated with the English National Opera, the London Barbican Center, the National Theater of Great Britain, the Deutsche Teatre, the Teatro Royal de la Monnaie (Brussels), The Wooster Group (New York) and the Comique Opera (Paris).
