Photo and description

Park im. Lazar Globa is the central park of the city of Dnepropetrovsk and is one of its attractions. From the end of the 18th century to the present, the park has changed its name several times: until 1858 it was called the Yekaterinoslav Treasury Garden, later it was divided into two gardens - City and Technical, in the thirties of the 19th century - again a park, but now named after M. Khatayevich, from the late thirties to the early nineties - the park named after the pilot Chkalov. A monument to this famous pilot was erected on the territory of the park.

The park was founded on a site belonging to the retired captain of the Zaporozhye army Lazar Globa. Until the middle of the 19th century it was one of the two main green areas of Yekaterinoslav. German Adam Hummel actually stood at the origins of the Treasury Botanical Garden and directed it for about forty years. It was he who turned the former Globa garden into a park, which, according to contemporaries, was considered one of the best in the entire territory of Novorossia. During this period, the park was the main recreation center for the townspeople, the venue for all kinds of rallies and meetings.

In 1992 the park received the name of Lazar Globa, and in 1998 it earned a new status. Currently, it is the "Central Children's", but, as before, serves as a place for the entertainment of residents and visitors of all ages. The wind of change has also touched the park: there is no longer a “ferris wheel”, there are catamarans instead of boats on the pond, and plaster sculptures of “workers and collective farmers” have been replaced by discos and entertainment clubs. But young families with children also like to come here, Couples in love slowly wander along the alleys, and elderly, but cheerful people gather on benches, enjoying the peace and quiet.
