Vileika reservoir description and photos - Belarus: Vileika. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe Vileika reservoir is the largest artificial reservoir in Belarus. Its area is 64.6 square meters. The decision to build the Vileika reservoir was made to improve water supply to the capital of Belarus, Minsk. The decisive role in the decision was played by the quality of water - this is one of the cleanest reservoirs in the former USSR. Construction began in 1968. Simultaneously with the reservoir, a canal was also built, connecting the Svisloch and Viliya rivers. In order to raise the water of the canal by 70 meters, several pumping stations were built. After the collapse of the USSR, the Republic of Belarus placed high hopes on the Vileika hydroelectric power station, the construction of which began in 1995. The first and second stages have already been commissioned. Vileika Reservoir is a popular recreation place for adults and children who appreciate clean water, clean air, and untouched nature. Since the reservoir is shallow - its average depth is 3.7 meters, the water warms up evenly to a temperature of 18-22 degrees. On the reservoir you can practice water sports or boating, you can enjoy magnificent landscapes, sunsets and sunrises, beautiful at any time of the year. In winter, the northern lights can be seen over the reservoir. They say that the air here is so clean that in winter, if you put your ear to the ice, you can hear the bells of distant monasteries. There are many fish in the clean water of the reservoir, which have especially proliferated recently, when the state began to take measures against poaching. At any time of the year there are many fishermen on the Vileika reservoir who come even from other countries for the sake of great fishing. Fishermen competitions are held annually. Several cozy recreation centers have been built on the coast of the Vileika reservoir, including for fishermen and hunters. We also recommend reading Basilica of the Holy Cross (Kosciele Sw.
