Photo and description

The building of the temple was built in 1855 at the expense of the merchant of the first guild P.F. Tulpin on the site of a wooden church that previously existed here since 1844. The white-stone Dukhososhestskaya church was built with five chapters: azure and gold, and with a three-tiered bell tower of thirteen bells. Three thrones were illuminated in the church: the main one - in the name of the Descent of the Holy Spirit and two limiting ones: in the name of the icon of the Sign of the Mother of God and in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

The church had a large parish and received rich donations, which made it possible to build houses for priests, an almshouse (in 1880) and a school (1885) next to the church. At the expense of the Church of the Spiritual Life in 1904, a church was built in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker on the street Bolshaya Gornaya (in 1930 the temple was destroyed, now on the site of the altar there is a monument to the Heroes - Krasnodontsy).

During the First World War, when a stream of refugees poured into Saratov, a second school for children of all religions was opened at the church. After the revolution, the Church of the Spiritual Life was fully supported by the believers until the mid-1930s, when, by order of the City Executive Committee, a granary was built in the church. In January 1948, after repeated appeals of citizens to the authorities, the church resumed services.

In 2001, due to the damage to the bell tower of the Holy Trinity Church, the Episcopal See was transferred to the Dukho-Soshestskaya Church, which became known as the Cathedral.

By the resolution of the Saratov Duma in 1994, the cathedral is recognized as a historical and cultural monument of regional significance. Nowadays there is a Sunday school at the church.
