Photo and description

In the spring of May 9, 2005 in the town of Novosokolniki, which is located in the Pskov region, a grand opening of the so-called "Memorial to the memory of the residents of Novosokolniki who gave their lives for the independence of their Motherland" took place. This monument is a large wall, painted white, and its central part is lined with red brick, which correlates this color with the Kremlin wall. It is precisely such a site, called the "Kremlin Wall", according to the author's idea, rather actively symbolizes the feat of heroic defense, which was valiantly displayed in the difficult time of defending the Motherland. Directly in front of the monument is a monument made of granite, on which there is an image of a red star, from the central part of which the fiery flame of the Eternal Flame flares up. There are four shields on the white wall, on which information is written about all the dead and missing people during the Great Patriotic War.

The first shield has an inscription that the erected monument was erected in honor of the 60th anniversary the long-awaited Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which happened just in 2005. On the remaining boards there is information that in 1941 the population of the Novosokolniki district was about 64 thousand people, given that 10 thousand people lived in the city of Novosokolniki at that time. During the war, more than three thousand inhabitants of this area died on the battle fronts, another 134 people died underground, 492 in partisan ranks, 545 innocent residents were shot by the Germans and 3250 people simply disappeared without a trace.

During the occupation of the Novosokolniki district by the German fascists, about 150 collective farms were destroyed, 179 villages were burned, 107 schools were completely destroyed, more than 85 km of railway tracks were destroyed, as well as about 70% of all residential buildings in the region. In addition, on the boards are written the names of several outstanding Heroes of the Soviet Union, as well as two knights awarded with honorary orders of Glory.

In the future, it is planned to place several information boards on the famous Monument, on which the names of all perished residents will be written Novosokolniki district during the Great Patriotic War, as well as military operations in Chechnya and Afghanistan. In total, during the period of the continuation of the war in the Novosokolniki district, more than seven thousand people died and went missing.

The idea of erecting a monument, belongs to veterans of the Great Patriotic War, which was supported by the local administration. The author of the project for the construction of the Monument was the chief architect Vladimir Bessonov, who had previously worked in the Pskov region.
