Photo and description

Kassiopi is a small resort village located on the north-east coast of Corfu, 36 km from the capital, opposite the coast of Albania. This place is very popular with tourists from the UK and Italy who are attracted by the crystal clear Ionian Sea and excellent beaches. There are also many picturesque desert bays nearby.

The ancient village of Kassiopi was founded in the 3rd century BC. during the reign of Pyrrhus (king of Epirus, a talented military leader) during the war with Rome. It was a typical Greek fishing village and port. In 230 BC. the island was conquered by the Romans, who built their fortress here. In this fortress, according to local legend, the emperor Nero stayed, who came to the temple of Zeus. Over time, nothing remained of the Roman structure, and on its foundation the Byzantines built their fortification. Later, the fortress was well fortified by the Venetians, and in the 16th century it successfully survived the siege of the Turkish invaders. The remains of the ancient castle are now clearly visible from the coastal road that skirts the cape. Visiting the ancient ruins, you can admire the beautiful panoramic views that open from the top of the fortress.

Today Kassiopi is a picturesque fishing village with a population of about 1200 people and a well-developed infrastructure. There are supermarkets, a post office, a hospital, a bank, a variety of shops and souvenir shops, public pools (including a children's one) and much more. There is an excellent playground in the center of the village next to the school.

In the small harbor, you can rent a boat and take a short sea trip anywhere on the island.

Kassiopi has many cozy cafes, bars and restaurants, a varied menu of which will delight visitors. Here you can taste Mexican, Chinese, Italian and of course traditional Greek cuisine. Very lively and nightlife in Kassiopi.
