Photo and description
The Archaeological Museum of Nessebar is located near the ruins of the old city wall, on Mesembria Street. It was opened in 1994. The expositions, which feature exhibits from different periods of the development of Nessebar, are displayed in four halls and a foyer. You can also see a UNESCO diploma here, which confirms that the city has been considered a World Heritage Site since 1984.
In the first hall of the museum, there are exhibits related to Messembria (old Nessebar) and Thrace. There are many anchors (previously the city was a very important transport hub), ancient Greek silver coins - tetradrachms, as well as a decree of exceptional importance associated with the name of the Thracian king Sadal.
In the second hall, guests of the museum are invited to get acquainted with the ancient religious culture and mythology. There are religious and funerary sculptures, marble sacrificial tablets, bronze vessels and much more. In the third room, visitors will be able to continue their acquaintance with the history of the city, and in the fourth - to admire the painting (there are various icons and paintings).
The collection of the museum's exhibits is constantly replenished - because in this ancient city archaeological excavations are going on almost constantly .
