The Philharmonic Society and the Museum of Musical and Theater Culture in the city of Kislovodsk were founded in 1965 at the initiative of Boris Matveyevich Rosenfeld, who later became the director of the museum.

To date, the museum has collected more than ten thousand various exhibits. The museum is divided into four main halls, each of which has a unique exhibition.

The first hall is dedicated to famous musicians and composers, ballet, opera and pop dancers who at one time gave concerts and vacationed in this region. A.A. Alyabyeva, M.I. Glinka, M.A. Balakireva, S.V. Rachmaninov, S.S. Prokofiev. It also houses the famous Bluthner white grand piano, which has been working properly for over 100 years.

The second hall is dedicated to the outstanding conductor, pianist and public figure - Vasily Ilyich Safonov. Documents, photographs, materials related to Safonov's activities, and much more are kept in the halls of the museum. It is noteworthy that Safonov was the initiator of the creation of the Kurzal (today - the State Philharmonic), as well as the opening of the first music school for children in the North Caucasus.

In the third hall, materials are presented, one way or another related to the academic symphony orchestra, which was founded more than a century ago and again not without the participation of V.I.Safonov. The fourth hall is dedicated to the famous bass of Russia - Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin, who has given concerts in the Kurzal several times.

The best orchestras of Russia and the world come here with concerts. Since 2001, the Philharmonic has held academic music festivals, already traditional can be called "Saturday meetings", which are held by artists of various genres.
