Photo and description

The town of Postavy stands on the banks of two lakes formed by the river Myadelka. This ancient trading city was first mentioned in 1409.

The main fame was brought by the Postavy family of Tizengauz. Anthony Tizengauz, the Grodno headman, educator, reformer, who sought to create an advanced industry, organized his estate on the model of European cities. He built 35 manufacturing plants that flourished and brought in considerable income.

His son Konstantin Tizengauz devoted himself to science. Under him, the Postavy turned into a scientific center. He built an Ornithological Museum, a library, an art gallery in the city. All the celebrities of that time came to his estate, looking for help and support from a wealthy philanthropist.

Today Postavy is a picturesque small town, reflected in the lake surface.

The famous Red Church of St. Anthony of Padua attracts many pilgrims and tourists. The temple, built in the neo-Gothic style at the end of the 19th century, overlooks the calm waters of the lake. The snow-white statue of the Savior blesses the believers at the entrance to the church.

The church of Nicholas the Pleasant looks cozy and homely, standing opposite the church. The white stone building of the church sets off the blue tent of the bell tower. Nicholas the Wonderworker, to whom the church is dedicated, is loved among the people for his kindness, help to the poor and intercession for the offended. Therefore, St. Nicholas' churches are always joyful, bright, cheerful. The retrospective Russian style is very suitable for such a church.

The Tizengauz Palace is a grandiose structure, built in the style of classicism. The building has now been completely restored. Landscaped yard and park. Concerts, holidays, historical reconstructions are held here today.

Old town buildings have been preserved in Postavy. It is easy to imagine how the city looked in the old days. A rich water mill has been preserved here. It continues to this day. You can admire this miracle, listen to the murmur of water and the measured beat of a water wheel.
