The Indonesian Army Museum is located in South Jakarta. The museum was opened in October 1972. The territory of the museum is 5.6 hectares. This museum has another name - the museum of the armed forces "Ksatriya Mandala". "Ksatriya Mandala" in Sanskrit means "sacred place for knights." The exposition of the museum is located in three buildings, some of the exhibits are installed on the street. This museum is the main military museum in Indonesia.

The idea of creating the museum belongs to the professor of history, who taught at the University of Indonesia, Nugroho Notosusanto. Initially, there was an idea to use the presidential palace in the city of Bogor as a museum of the armed forces. This request was made to the President of Indonesia, Haji Mohammed Suharto, but he refused. Instead, it was proposed to use the Wism Yaso Museum - a building built in the 1960s as a residence for the wife of the first President of Indonesia, Sukarno, Devi Sukarno. The building was built in Japanese style. The house began to be converted into a museum in November 1971.

Despite the fact that work on improving the museum was carried out until 1979, the President of Indonesia Suharto formally opened the museum already in 1972. At the time of opening, only 20 dioramas were housed in the museum. In 1987, another pavilion was built. In the exhibition halls, guests can familiarize themselves with many types of weapons, handy materials and other items that were used in battle. There are also photographs. Some exhibits are of great value, it is forbidden to touch them, and some cannot even be photographed. In the open air, visitors can see combat vehicles and other military equipment.
