Photo and description

The Church of St. Nicholas is located in one of the most popular resorts of the Makarska Riviera - in the town of Baska Voda. This temple appeared in the town not so long ago - in 1889, but has already become a significant local landmark.

The church, erected in the neo-Romanesque style, was consecrated in honor of the Archbishop of Lycia, St. Nicholas, the patron saint of pilgrims and sailors. In 1903, a wooden choir was built in the temple, which in 1971 was replaced by a concrete, more stable and sturdy structure. Prior to this, in 1923, the first significant reconstruction of the church took place, during which the vault of the church was painted. The artist F. Andrejs depicted there the figure of the heavenly patron saint of the church - St. Nicholas. Three stone altars with marble details - Large, The Dormition of the Theotokos and St. Nicholas - created by the artist from Split Ante Frank in 1936-1939. The statue of the Virgin Mary was acquired in Tyrol in 1890, and the sculpture depicting St. Nicholas appeared in the church a year earlier, in 1889. It was also created by Tyrolean craftsmen.

In 1969, the Church of St. Nicholas in Baska Voda received the status of a cultural monument. The valuable colored stained glass windows were installed during a recent renovation at the end of the last century. Their author is the artist Josip Botteri Dini. A little later, another shrine appeared in the temple - sculptures on the theme of the Way of the Cross, designed by Josip Bifel. A detached high bell tower, matching in style with the design of the temple located a few steps away, was built in 1991 according to the project of Ante Rozica.
