Photo and description

The Opera and Ballet Theater in Yekaterinburg is one of the oldest in Russia.

A luxurious theatrical building in the Viennese Baroque style was erected in 1912 on the square of the Paris Commune (formerly Drovyanaya Square) on the site of a wooden circus building that had existed since 1896. The author of the project of the city theater was a civil engineer from Pyatigorsk - Vladimir Nikolaevich Semyonov. The building is made according to the type of the famous Odessa and Vienna opera houses.

However, the Yekaterinburg theater began its history long before the first brick was laid in its foundation. In the 70s. XIX Art. the stage of the first Yekaterinburg theater (now the Coliseum cinema) hosted high-class Moscow opera enterprises. In 1874 g. local lovers of this genre organized the only music group in the whole country, where amazing opera performances were created and the most complex musical scores were born. The reverence and reverent love of the opera made the local authorities think about building their own opera theater.

The city theater opened its first season in 1912 with MI Glinka's opera “A Life for the Tsar”. The first ballet performance of R. Drigo - "The Magic Flute" was staged in 1914. However, the institution received its name "Theater of Opera and Ballet" only in 1931. Since the mid-1920s. the theater gained great fame and glory, becoming one of the best in the country, and all this thanks to the presence of unrivaled musicians and talented performers in the troupe.

The Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theater has always been famous for its classical performances, traditions, famous singers, dancers, directors and conductors. At one time, such famous singers as S. Lemeshev, I. Kozlovsky, I. Arkhipova, as well as conductor A. Pazovsky, directors V. Lossky and L. Baratov began their career here and worked.

The theater's repertoire includes several dozen operas and ballets. Each new season opens for connoisseurs of classical art with new interesting performances.
