Mount Carmenna description and photos - Switzerland: Arosa. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Carmenna. Photo and descriptionCarmenna is a mountain pass in the Swiss canton of Graubunden, located at an altitude of 2368 meters above sea level. It is located between the Old Town of Arosa (the so-called Inner-Arosa area) and Mount Chirchen, which is located in the Shanfigg Valley. Hundreds of tourists pass through Carmenna in summer, following a popular hiking trail. On it you can go down to Mount Weisshorn. The trail is part of the circular route Arosa-Chirchen-Arosa. The name of the Carmenna Pass can be translated as “nearby alpine meadows”. The pass first became known in the 14th century, when the Walsers people who came from the Valley of Wallis and settled in Arosa began to look for the shortest road to the city of Chur. The pass was located at a high altitude, therefore, only people with small luggage could overcome it. In the 1920s, on one of the slopes of Carmenna, at an altitude of 2134 meters above sea level, a hut of the same name (Carmennautte) was built - a spacious house where climbers and amateurs hiking and downhill skiing could relax while enjoying hot tea. Almost immediately, Carmenna's hut was recognized as one of the largest and most popular ski chalets in Switzerland. In 1991-1992, a 60-meter crane was built next to the hut, from which one can jump on a special rope (bungee jumping). In winter, there is an exhibition of huge sculptures made of snow next to Chalet Carmenna. Here you can see images of various animals, houses and even a model of the Langweiser viaduct. To an altitude of 1900 meters along the slope of Carmenna, you can climb on a four-seater chair lift, which locals call "Ferrari", and then walk.
