Photo and description

In the western region of Bratislava called Dubravka, at the end of the last century, a temple of the Holy Spirit was built, decorated in a modern style. The unusual shape of the temple immediately attracts attention, so the church stands out from the row of neighboring houses.

Residents of Dubravka, which was an independent village until 1946, visited the modest baroque church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, erected in 1723, or the chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, dating from the second half of the 18th century. However, these temples could not accommodate all the parishioners. Then Archbishop and Metropolitan Jan Sokol gave permission to build a new church. Stanislav Voytko, Ph.D., was appointed the curator of the future construction. The first stone in the foundation of the church was laid in 1995 in the presence of St. John Paul II, when he, while still a Roman pontiff, came to Bratislava. The project of the future church was carried out by experienced architects Ludovit Rezukha and Marian Luptaka. In addition to the main building of the church, it was also planned to build a house for the priest and several auxiliary rooms.

The church was built in 7 years. Already in 2002, a solemn ceremony of its consecration took place. Above the nave of the semicircular church, which can simultaneously accommodate up to 600 parishioners, a dome with an arrow-spire rises upward. Instead of the altarpiece, there is an image of a flying dove - a symbol of the Holy Spirit. The dove is not painted on the wall, but cast from metal painted with light paint. It was made by master Zhurovaty. Thanks to the large number of tall windows, the interior of the church is as if permeated with light.
