Photo and description

Krol's House at 55 Postysheva Street, located in Donetsk. This is a real monument of architecture and history. It was built back in 1903 for Krol David Lazarevich, who was a merchant. The merchant was engaged in various business in Yuzovka, but his main direction was trading in tiles for facing.

This is a two-story building. At that time, Art Nouveau was not so widely used in buildings and was an innovation. Since the merchant was engaged in the trade of facing tiles, it is not surprising that the facade of the house is inlaid with it. There was a kiln in the courtyard of the mansion, which was used to burn bricks. And the basement was used to store bottles with hydrochloric and sulfuric acid for sale.

During the Soviet Union it was a residential building, but during the perestroika years, in June 1991, there was a fire in the house and it completely burned down, people also died in the fire. After that, the house stood in ruins for several years. Later, in the late 90s, the mansion was reconstructed and restored at her own expense by private entrepreneur Larisa Zakharova. The reconstruction of this house required 15 tons of metal, and she did all this at her own expense.

In the mid-80s, this mansion and many other old buildings in the area were planned to be included in the memorial part “Old Yuzovka”. Unfortunately, this project was not implemented due to lack of funds.

The house was under threat of destruction during the construction of the Donetsk metro and the station "Polytechnic Institute". But, ultimately, they refused to build the metro and thus this old building was saved. Today this mansion is actively used and rented by various commercial structures.
