Photo and description

On the banks of the Volga, on both sides of the Shokhonka River, there are two sculptures: "Plyos cat" and "Summer resident". Both of them are relatively young, and their gaze is fixed on the Volga distance.

There are quite a few monuments depicting cats, but there are few that are dedicated to a specific animal. Among the latter is the sculpture "Plyos cat". The fly (that was the name of the cat during its lifetime) lived with a local artist Vitaly Panchenko, which made its owner incredibly happy. She loved to sit at the boat dock, admire her native spaces. One day she had to protect her kittens from a yard dog. As a result of this fight, Fly died. Galina, the artist's wife, offered to perpetuate the memory of the brave cat. Belarusian sculptor Oleg Illarionov, who often visits Plyos, supported this idea.

Near the pier at the corner of Sovetskaya and Ostrovsky Streets, at Mucha's favorite resting place, a pedestal, rumored to have belonged to a girl with an oar, has long been empty. It was he who was chosen by the authors of the monument for their sculpture. The Fly was cast from concrete so that it could be easily replaced if uncultured people try to do harm. Since autumn 2008, the cat has been sitting on the embankment and pensively looking into the distance.

The "Summer Resident", which appeared on the banks of the Volga in the park near the Museum of Landscape a little later - in the summer of 2010, also looks into the distance. This is not our usual grandmother with knapsacks, hurrying to the train, but a young intelligent girl of Levitan's time in a summer dress and hat, resting on a bench in the shade of trees. She looks at the Volga through a transparent easel. Thus, looking at the picture, you will see a living miraculous landscape of the river distance.

The creative association "Credo", in which artists from Ivanovo, Yaroslavl and Vologda regions participate, created this sculptural composition for the celebration of the 600th anniversary of Plyos. Isaac Levitan's student and companion Sofia Kuvshinnikova became the prototype of "Summer Resident". The sculptural composition is complemented by a bronze palette lying on a pedestal. It captures the signatures of the artists in whose work Plyos played an important role.
