Central Park Skyscraper (Central Park Tower) description and photos - Australia: Perth. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The name in English is Central Park Tower. Photo and DescriptionThe Central Park Skyscraper is a 51-story office building in Perth. The height of the skyscraper is 226 meters from the base to the roof, and together with the communication antenna - all 249 meters. It is the tallest building in Perth and the ninth tallest in Australia. The approval of the building project was quite controversial: the height of the skyscraper is more than twice the height allowed for this place. The building itself was built of multilayer steel on a concrete frame with various ledges of the facade - the upper floors are much smaller in area than the lower ones. Lateral supports at the top of the building and on the ledges increase its resistance to the strong winds that are common in this region. At the foot there is a small park, which gave the name to the skyscraper. Since the early 1930s, this site has been home to the Foy & Gibson department store, known locally simply as Foyes and later renamed David Jones. By the late 1970s, the chain that owned the department store had withdrawn from the Western Australian market, and the store stood idle for several years. In 1985, this land was acquired by Central park Developments, which announced the reconstruction of an area of 1.5 hectares. It was assumed that a 45-storey office building, underground parking, a park and a store will be built here. By October 1986, the height of the planned building had increased to 47 floors. A big problem was caused by the project to build an underground parking lot: according to the decision of the Perth City Council, only 300 cars could be located in this place of the city so as not to create traffic. And the project announced the creation of 1,175 parking spaces. Construction of the skyscraper began in 1988 and ended 4 years later with the installation of a communication antenna. The first tenants occupied their offices in May 1992, and the park was opened six months later. The construction of the largest office center in the city cost $ 186.5 million.
