Photo and description

Chentebach is a left tributary of the Engstlige River in the Swiss canton of Bern. The length of Chentebakh is over 5 kilometers, and the total height difference between the source and the mouth is about 909 meters. The stream carries the waters falling from the eastern slope of Mount Gsyur and the southern slope of Mount Bodezehore to the Bernese Alps, or, as they are also called, the Bernese Pre-Alpine. After a long journey north, the water from Chentebach flows into the Rhine.

The source of Chentebakh is located at an altitude of about 2000 meters above sea level. The size of the channel is highly dependent on weather conditions. For example, during a thunderstorm, the water level can rise in a matter of hours. Before flowing into the Engstlig, the Chentebach flows through the Cholera Gorge, one of the most beautiful places in the Bernese Oberland. It's not that big its length is only 100 meters, but at the same time it is literally filled with numerous waterfalls, water mills, and water-cut boulders - former fragments of rocks. You can go down into the gorge along a specially built bridge that turns into a staircase leading almost to the water itself.

A person who first came here is amazed at how strongly Chentebakh is transformed. How harmless it seems before it falls into the gorge, so much the waters that have found themselves in temporary confinement rage. Those who want to admire this miracle of nature should come here during the warm season. In winter, as well as in case of bad weather, the gorge is closed for visitors to protect them from possible accidents.
