The charming resort town of Limenaria is the second largest settlement on the Greek island of Thassos. It is located in a picturesque bay on the southwestern coast of the island, about 42 km from the capital.

The history of the modern city, in fact, begins at the end of the 19th century, when the German company Speidel began to develop deposits in these places natural resources. The old office building of the company called "Palataki" can still be seen today on the top of a cliff jutting into the sea on the east side of the coast of Limenaria. It is a fine example of eclectic architecture. There is an old abandoned mine underneath, where you can take a short tour. Many ancient buildings built by the Turks at the beginning of the 20th century have also survived in the city.

In recent years, the city's tourist infrastructure has changed dramatically. Today, Limenaria has a huge selection of comfortable hotels and excellent apartments, as well as a wide variety of shops and all necessary services (hospital, pharmacies, police, banks, etc.). In summer, life on the busy city embankment is in full swing. Here you will find many fine restaurants, cozy taverns and cafes where you can relax, enjoy magnificent panoramic views and taste excellent local cuisine.
