Photo and descriptionThe National Museum of Literature of Ukraine was opened in 1986 in a historical building of the 19th century, which once housed the Galagan college, which was one of the best educational institutions in Kiev. It was here that Ukrainian writers of those times loved to visit, the most famous of which is Ivan Franko, who was married in the Church of St. Paul, which then worked at the college. Kiev Museum of Literature is considered the main museum of this profile in Ukraine. The museum's expositions are very extensive, since they try to cover almost all periods of the development of Ukrainian literature, from the times of Kievan Rus to our time. There are more than 5,000 exhibits here alone, and the museum has collected 80,000 exhibits. The museum staff are especially proud of the old editions of the 17th-18th centuries, works of decorative and applied art, photographs, and unique old printed books. Thus, the famous "Apostle" by Ivan Fedorov is kept here, which is considered one of the first printed books with the Cyrillic alphabet. There are also lifetime editions of works by Ivan Franko, Taras Shevchenko, personal belongings of Nechuy-Levitsky, Panas Mirny, and a manuscript by Lesya Ukrainka. A separate exposition of the museum tells how the events of 1918 near Kruty were covered in the press of that time. There you can also see the original of the Second Universal of the Central Rada. In addition to exhibition activities, the National Museum of Literature of Ukraine organizes regular festivals, literary meetings, presentations of various publications, presentation of literary prizes.
