Alcacer do Sal is a city located in the eponymous municipality of Setubal district. The city of Alcacer do Sal is home to about 9,000 people, and the total population of the municipality of the same name is more than 13 thousand people.

Alcacer do Sal is located on the banks of the Sado River, which flows in the districts of Setubal and Bejo, and is also considered one of the main rivers of the country. The river flows from south to north, near the city of Setubal, the Sado river flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The river is known for the fact that a rare species of dolphins live exclusively in its mouth.

Archaeological excavations carried out in Alcacer do Sal have shown that settlements on this land were already about 40,000 years ago, during the Mesolithic period. Approximately in the 1-2 century BC, Alcacer was part of the Roman Empire. After the city was conquered by the Umayyad Caliphate, and at the end of the 15th century, the city was conquered by the King of Portugal Manuel I.

Today Alcacer do Sal is known for the fact that a few kilometers from this city there is a natural park of the Sado River, which covers an area of 23.16 hectares. Cork oaks, pines, mangroves grow in the park. Among the buildings, connoisseurs of ancient architecture should look at antique containers in which fish was salted. The reserve is inhabited by rare birds such as the white stork, flamingos, herons. Here you can also see bottlenose dolphins, which are a rare breed of dolphins. Bottlenose dolphins are also a symbol of this nature reserve.
