The Tver Imperial Traveling Palace - an architectural monument of the 18th century - is located in the historical center of Tver. The palace with two pavilions was built in 1764-1766 in the classicism style with baroque elements according to the project of MF Kazakov. The palace was intended for the rest of the members of the imperial family on the way from St. Petersburg to Moscow, from where it got its name. On February 12, 1767, Empress Catherine II first arrived at the Tver Travel Palace and gave dinner to local noblemen.

The palace was rebuilt by K.I. Rossi in the early 19th century. At this time, the sister of Alexander I, Ekaterina Pavlovna, who was married to the governor of Tver, lived here, who turned the palace into one of the centers of the country's social life and a fashionable literary salon. where the high society of Tver gathered and where many outstanding people from Moscow and St. Petersburg came.

In the fall of 1941, the building was partially destroyed by the Nazis, in 1942-1948. restored. Currently, the Traveling Palace houses the Art Gallery, a historical and architectural museum.
