Lakes of Killarney description and photos - Ireland: Killarney. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Lakes of Killarney. Photo & DescriptionThe world famous Killarney Lakes is one of Ireland's most impressive natural attractions. The lakes are located in the valley at the foot of the picturesque mountains, near the town of Killarney in County Kerry and are part of the Killarney National Park. The Killarney Lakes include three lakes - Lough Lane, Macross and Superior. All of them are of glacial origin. The largest lake and closest to the city of Killarney is Loch Lane, which, in addition to incredible landscapes, is famous for such sights as Macross Abbey and Ross Castle. On the east bank of Loch Lane, there are also old copper mines, the development of which began in prehistoric times. The small islet of Innisfallen is also worth a visit, where you can see the ruins of an old abbey, founded in the 7th century, within the walls of which the future High King of Ireland, Brian Boru, was educated (however, the ruins that have survived to this day date back to the 10-13th centuries). And on the verdant Macross Peninsula, which separates Loch Lane and Macross Lakes, is the famous Macross House, which laid the foundation for Killarney National Park. The Macross Peninsula is also one of those rare places in Europe where you can still see the yew forest. As a rule, exploring the lakes is part of the visit to Killarney National Park. You can plan your route yourself or use the services of a professional guide. You can fully enjoy the fantastic panoramic views by visiting the special observation deck "Ladies View", which you will hardly miss, We also recommend reading Old High St Stepen's and description and photos - Great Britain: Inverness Topic: Lakes of Killarney description and photos - Ireland: Killarney. |
