The Bronx Zoo is one of the world's largest urban zoos. Located on one hundred and seven hectares, it contains about four thousand animals (more than six hundred species) from all continents.

It appeared on the land that was once owned by Fordham University, which sold this site to New York at the end of the 19th century for just a thousand dollars - on the condition that a zoo would be founded here. Perhaps the Catholic university, located in the village of Fordham north of New York, wanted to shield itself from the oncoming city with a kind of buffer. Children are happy to ride the "carousel of beetles", visit the colony of seabirds, a butterfly garden, the so-called children's zoo - there they teach to behave like different animals.
