Parndana is a town in the geographical center of Kangaroo Island, 40 km from Kingscote. The very name "Parndana" means "the place of small eucalyptus trees". The town was founded in 1951 to provide commercial and logistical support for the local agricultural "boom" that began after World War II, when former soldiers returned and production of local produce doubled. The absence of agricultural pests and poisonous plants provides an obvious competitive advantage of local products over the mainland.

3 km west of the city is the Parndana Wildlife Park, which preserves the largest private collection of local animals on the island. In the park, opened in 1992 and occupying 12 hectares, hundreds of birds and animals live. Kangaroos and wallabies live in open enclosures, they are very friendly and allow themselves to be hand-fed. However, food must be purchased at a local store. Emu ostriches roam in the open-air cages next to the kangaroo. Koalas can be visited with a guide. Other inhabitants of the park include echidnas, swamp wallabies, kangaroo rats, potoru, fallow deer, wombats, crocodiles and domestic animals. The park also takes care of injured animals and orphaned babies. In the open-air aviary, you can see the largest collection of birds on the island, including parrots, hawks, owls, eagles, kookaburras, and various types of cockatoos.
