City of Iligan description and photos - Philippines: Mindanao Island. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The name in English is City of Iligan. Photo and descriptionThe city of Iligan, located in the north of the province of Lanao del Norte on the island of Mindanao, was once the capital of the province. According to the 2007 census, it is home to about 318 thousand people. Iligan is called the "City of Grandiose Waterfalls", because on its territory there are several of these natural wonders - about 20! The most famous is the Maria Cristina waterfall, which is sometimes called the "twin falls" because there is a huge boulder at the very edge of the cliff, dividing the waterfall into two streams. The height of Maria Christina is 98 meters. Another famous waterfall is Tinago, located in the Buruun area. This is one of the most beautiful natural attractions in the vicinity of Iligan - streams of water from a height of 73 meters fall into a deep emerald lagoon. A small cave is hidden behind the waterfall, where you can listen to the crash of falling water. And along the banks of the Tinago is a lush tropical forest. There is a beautiful legend about the origin of the waterfall: once upon a time the influential Sultan Agok lived in these places with his wife. The people chose them as their rulers, but they became proud and began to oppress the people. When the Sultan's wife was pregnant, one sorceress, disguised as a beggar, asked Agok for help, but he refused her and drove her out of the yard. Then the sorceress cursed the spouses and said that their child would be ugly. And so it happened - when the baby was born, everyone was amazed at her ugly appearance. Agok and his wife hid the child in a cave and named her Tin-ag, which means "hidden face." When she grew up she came out of her hiding place and met with that very sorceress - the sorceress offered to return the beauty to the girl. The girl agreed and turned into Tinago Falls. Other popular Iligan waterfalls include Mimbalut, Abaga, Dodiongan and Limunsudan waterfalls, which are considered the highest in the Philippines. Some of them can only be reached on foot. Another attraction of Iligan are the Timog springs, famous for their icy and crystal clear water, which fills several reservoirs. These reservoirs are very popular with the city residents, because they are so good to cool off in during the summer heat. They are located along the main highway at a distance of 500 meters to 1 kilometer from the Buruun area. On the same highway, you can get to Bukana beach - one of the most beautiful within Iligan. In addition to the natural beauty in Iligan, it is worth visiting the city Park of the Century, the Labyrinth Park and the Cathedral of St. Michael.
