Photo and description

Teatro Degollado is located in the center of Guadalajara, the capital of the state of Jalisco. The Mexican theatrical movement in the 19th century gave birth to Degollado. The public demanded that it be erected so that one could enjoy the opera and serious productions. It was opened in the mid-60s of the 19th century, and soon it became a cult place for the intelligentsia. The actors first appeared on the stage in 1866, when the building was not yet completed. Teatro Degollado was rebuilt several times, which led to as many as four opening ceremonies; the last one took place in 1964.

Architects consider the theater building to be an impeccable model for theatrical appearance. The theater has its own pond. Inside, the theater is no less majestic: walls the color of gold, heavy curtains, neoclassical mosaics, huge columns. Despite all the metamorphoses that took place with the main structure, the facade of the theater has retained its authentic appearance. It depicts Apollo and the nine Muses. It is worth noting that the theater building is on the list of Mexico's national heritage.

The theater hosts the International Festival, the city ballet troupe, the folk ballet collective and the state philharmonic orchestra. Degollado surprises with the diversity of his repertoire: not only ballet performances, but concerts of classical and modern music are performed here.

The theater is designed for an audience of 1400 people. In May 2001, the theater underwent another change in its structure - a chamber hall for two hundred spectators was added to its inner part.

Occasionally, the City of Guadalajara, in conjunction with the Degollado administration, organize free theater tours.
