The Maritime Museum was opened in 1962 in the western wing of the Jeronimos Monastery in Belem. Here you can see many models of boats, fishing vessels, sailing ships and caravels, as well as a variety of navigational instruments, astrolabes, nautical charts and stone crosses that were installed by the Portuguese on the lands they discovered. Models of modern Portuguese ships are also on display here.
