A part of the memorial museum-estate named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov includes Vechasha and Lyubensk - two complexes that at one time were considered estates. It is these two estates that are closely intertwined with the name of the famous Russian composer, because it was here that his most famous works were born. The outstanding composer found his eternal peace in the estate of Lyubensk.

For the first time N.А. Rimsky-Korsakov visited Vechasha in 1894, arriving at the estate of the old woman Ogareva, located very close to the famous Plyussa station. Together with her daughter, Ogareva lived in a small house in the area of the estate, and rented out her large house in the summer. In this place, Nikolai Andreevich was delighted with a beautiful large lake called Pesno, as well as a large old garden decorated with elms and lindens.

In the famous "Chronicle of my musical life" Rimsky-Korsakov wrote that the house is a heavy and disproportionate building, although very comfortable and spacious enough, swimming in the lake is a great pleasure, and at night there is a big moon and bright stars are miraculously reflected in the lake water. In one summer, the opera “The Night Before Christmas” was completely written here.

The great composer has always been attracted to Vechasha. In 1904, his whole family moved to the local area for the summer. Everything here was familiar and familiar, besides, it was very easy and unconstrained to work, which is very important for a person of a creative profession. The next year, in 1905, Nikolai Andreevich again came to this region.

An important trace in the life of Rimsky-Korsakov was also left by the estate of Lyubensk, located next to Vechasha, in which the composer settled in 1907. Lyubensk was located on the opposite side of that very Pesno lake, namely, 15 km from the Plyussa station. After some time, Nikolai Andreevich decided to buy this estate. It was in Lyubensk that his opera The Golden Cockerel was completed. Nikolai Andreevich's favorite resting place was a gazebo with a bench located under an old linden tree.

On May 21, 1908, the famous composer arrived in Lyubensk. That year Nikolai Andreevich was seriously ill, which was accompanied by a severe heart attack. The second attack was repeated on the night of the 6th of June, but the composer played the piano and wrote letters the very next day. A new attack began after 2 a.m. just during a thunderstorm. About half-past two the poet died. Nikolai Andreevich was buried in the city of St. Petersburg - in the necropolis of the Alexander Nevsky monastery. The composer's family lived in Lyubensk until 1919. At the request of A.V. Lunacharsky two houses - in Lyubensk and Vechash - were taken under state protection.

In March 1995, a significant event took place in Vechas and Lyubensk not only for the Pskov region and the Plyussky region, but also for the entire musical Russia - a museum memorial complex of the famous Russian composer N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov. The very first excursion was conducted by Tatyana Vladimirovna, the granddaughter of the famous composer.

Every year the long-awaited Memorial Day of N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, various creative groups and professional musicians perform here, and all day long, the enchanting works of the great composer sound.

Among the permanent expositions of the museum, one can single out “The last years of the work and life of N.А. Rimsky-Korsakov "," Lyubensk "and" Nature in the works of Rimsky-Korsakov ".

As for the theatrical excursions, in February-March there is an excursion called "Visiting Tsar Berendey", during December-January the "Christmas Legend of Scheherazade" takes place, in April-May there are "Miracles in Lollipop ", and in May -" Green Christmastide ".
