The title in English is Wolkoff House Museum. Photo and descriptionThe Volkov House-Museum is an old wooden merchant's house, built over the years: from 1826 to 1905 in the center of Lappeenranta, next to the town hall. Initially, the owner of the building was the wealthy merchant Claudelin, then in 1872 the ownership of the house passed to the Russian merchant, a former serf peasant - Ivan Volkov, who became the ancestor of four generations of the trading dynasty. His descendants donated the famous house to the city in 1983, and in 1993 a museum was opened there, telling about the merchant life of those times and preserving Orthodox traditions. The interior of the house-museum contains unique household and antique items and decorations. Inspection of the building begins with a visit to the women's bedroom and dressing room, and then, passing through the living room, study and dining room, you find yourself in another bedroom, located next to the children's room, and find yourself in the kitchen. There is a small bakery on the museum site, where traditional Russian bread is still baked according to classic recipes. At the Volkoff restaurant, which opened in 1998, first-class chefs will prepare a delicious lunch for you. In a small shop located in the house-museum, you can buy various souvenirs and gifts for your friends and loved ones, especially on the eve of Easter and Christmas. These days, the territory of the museum turns into a venue for festive festivals. The house-museum is open every day, but only in summer.
