Photo and descriptionThe nature reserve "Dubravy near the village of Velkota" was created with state support and is located in the Leningrad region, more precisely in the Kingisepp region, not far from the small village of Velkota. The nature reserve is a carefully protected natural territorial area under special control. "Dubravy near the village of Velkota" was formed in mid-1976. The purpose of creating the natural complex "Dubravy near the village of Velkota" was the timely preservation of the richest forests with trees such as elms, oaks, as well as a whole global complex of nemoral plant varieties and incredible beauty of parkland. In addition, the sources of the Velkotka River are of particular value. The work of the nature reserve is regulated by the state supervision represented by the Government of the Leningrad Region, namely the Committee for the Protection of the Environment and Natural Resources of the Leningrad Region. The area of the complex is located on the Ordovician plateau, which for many years consisted of lime rocks. It should be noted that the plateau consists of several woodlands, which are rich in different quantitative abundance with oaks, apple trees, elms, common honeysuckle, viburnum and many other herbs and shrubs typical for the zone of deciduous forests. A particularly interesting fact is that the age of some oak trees on the territory of the reserve reaches about a hundred or even more years, while the height of these representatives reaches 25 meters, and the trunk diameter is more than half a meter. In the southeast direction, which is closer to the outskirts of the village of Velkota, there is a large old park, most of which are picturesque groups, as well as numerous single plantings of tree species common in these parts. One of the features of the local zone is the predominance of broad-leaved plants, as well as the so-called introduced species. In the described park there is a huge karst funnel, from the depths of which a huge number of natural springs gush, which give rise to the local river Velkotka. As for the fauna of this region, it becomes clear that representatives of the fauna live here, adapted to live in deciduous forests. A huge number of common forest birds live in the forest belts, but you can also see the nests of the turtledove, the gray owl, the green woodpecker, the marsh chick, nuthatch and many other birds. The forest inhabitants of the complex nature reserve include the European hare, yellow-throated mouse, and some species of bats. It is especially rare to meet a roe deer, which may not be lucky for everyone. As for the issue of the regime of protection and protected objects, the following representatives of flora and fauna are especially protected: old-growth single trees, oak forests, elm forest , numerous parks, a large karst funnel with numerous outlets of springs, gray owl, green woodpecker, common turtledove and roe deer. For the nature reserve "Dubravy near the village of Velkota" there is a protection regime that fully regulates the conduct of human economic activity. In the zone where the reserve is distributed, the following are strictly prohibited: water intake in the upper reaches and headwaters of the river by pumps, pollution of the Velkotka River, littering of the territory, improvement of roads, making fires, and not only driving, but also stopping vehicles and motorcycles in the park area.
