Photo and description

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Bolzano, more often referred to simply as the Museumon, was founded as a private collection in 1985 and opened its doors to visitors two years later. Over time, the mission of the museum changed, it became a platform for various meetings and discussions, as well as a studio where real works of art were created. In 1991, the name Museumon was born, and in the early 2000s, he turned his attention to contemporary art with an emphasis on the role of linguistic structures in culture. In 2008, a new, very extraordinary building with a large glass facade was built for the museum's collections, which made us talk about a kind of dialogue between the historic center of Bolzano and the new areas of the city.

The Museum's collections reflect the evolution and development of the museum itself. Its first exhibits were mainly devoted to the historical work of the Greater Tyrol region. In the early 1990s, the museum's collection expanded to include works by Italian artists from the 1950s and 60s, as well as local craftsmen.

Today, in the Museumon, in addition to acquaintance with the works of the largest representatives of contemporary international art, you can become a direct participant in cultural shows. Over the years, such masters as Monica Bonvicini, Iza Genzken, Gabriel Curie, Teresa Margulis, Karl Andre and others have performed here. Thematic exhibitions are regularly organized in collaboration with other museums in Italy and Europe.

The administration of the Museum pays special attention to working with children and their parents, educational and educational programs. Children also have the opportunity to take part in various seminars and master classes. On traditional Family Sundays, young visitors to the museum can make their own discoveries in art and culture.
