Photo and description

Petrovsky Park in Kronstadt is a historical monument of the 19th century. The author of the project was the military governor of the city Faddey Faddeevich Bellingshausen, the builder - N.I. Valuev. The object of cultural heritage of the Russian Federation is under state protection. It is located between the Petrovsky Dock canal and the Arsenal building, from the pier to Makarovskaya street. The Winter Wharf joins Petrovsky Park, which has ships of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy.

In 1752, two main squares of Kronstadt were built - Yakornaya and Arsenalnaya. Arsenalnaya Square was named so because it was located opposite the Arsenal. Parades, exercises, reviews, punishments, etc. were regularly held here.

After Bellingshausen was appointed governor of Kronstadt in 1839, The Arsenal Square is gone. And this happened because the admiral did not like the streets covered with mud, the terrible stench coming from all directions. Then Bellingshausen decided to ask for money for the improvement of the city, but was refused. After that, he hired workers at his own expense, who dug the gutters. Then the admiral set about greening the city. Bellingshausen picked the seedlings himself. So in the middle of the 19th century, a small garden appeared on the site of the former Arsenalnaya Square. But the governor was still unhappy. He decided to set up a Dutch-style park here, the center of which was to be a monument to Peter the Great. The engineer Valuev became involved in this work.

The model of the monument was acquired in 1839 from Theodore Jacques. In 1841 it was cast by Pyotr Karlovich Klodt. Preserved engravings, on which the seven-meter giant is surrounded by small tree sprouts. Later, the park grew, and now many trees are taller than the figure of the emperor. In 1961, a sword was stolen from the monument, so it became necessary to cast a new one. In style, it no longer corresponds to the swords that were used in Peter's times.

After the revolutionary events of 1917, Petrovsky Park was renamed Freedom Park. In 1991, the former name was returned to it.

During the reign of Peter I, the Winter Pier was created, to the construction of which captured Swedes, serfs and those sentenced to hard labor were involved. And for over a century, everything here was made of wood.

In 1859, due to the fact that the appearance of the Winter Wharf ceased to correspond to the appearance of a well-kept park, wooden buildings were replaced by stone ones. Also, at the same time, work was carried out to deepen the bottom.

In 1882, the marina acquired its present appearance. The preserved cores from the ship "Emperor Paul I" and cannons remind of the past on the pier. Also, stone vases located along the pier belong to these years.

After the Great Patriotic War, another monument appeared on the pier - anchors from the boats from which the Peterhof troops landed on October 5, 1941.

All round-the-world voyages made by Russian sailors began precisely from the Kronstadt Winter Wharf.
