Orthodox Church of the Icon of the Mother of God `` Seeking the Lost '' is located in the city of Kharkov, in a public garden, at the crossroads of Lenin Avenue and Kultury Street, not far from the monument to the soldiers-internationalists who died in Afghanistan. It was named in the name of the icon of the Mother of God `` The Seeking of the Lost. '' This image, revered in Russia, in front of him mothers pray for their dead children.

The temple was built in 2006 in memory of the warriors who died in local wars. The initiator of the construction of such a church was the Kharkov Regional Union of Afghanistan Veterans. In October 2007, a capsule with the holy relics was laid, and the site designated for the construction of the temple was consecrated.

First, at this place, in the "Afghan" quot; square, a small chapel was to be erected in memory of the serviceman Yevgeny, who refused to renounce the Christian faith in Chechnya, for which he was killed. Nevertheless, the construction expanded, and instead of the planned chapel, a full-fledged temple was built that could accommodate 250 parishioners. The structure is 26 meters high. Its painting will be carried out only after a few years, when it will completely shrink.

In August 2008, on the day when Kharkov was liberated from the Nazi invaders, the newly erected church was consecrated in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Seeking the Lost", and in memory of the heroism of the warrior Yevgeny Rodionov and together with him killed soldiers.

The temple was built with the blessing of the Metropolitan of Kharkov and His Eminence Nikodim. The consecration of the temple was carried out by the vicar of the Kharkov diocese, His Eminence Onufriy, and the archbishop of Izyum, co-served by the city clergy.
