Photo and description

The Temple of Elijah the Prophet is located in Palekh, on M. Gorky Street, on the territory of the cemetery. It is a small parish village church typical for the region, in the composition of volumes and elements of which the influence of the architecture of the second half of the 17th century is felt.

Elias Church was built in 1790 of brick on the site of a former wooden one. The original plank roof and green tiled heads were replaced with wrought-rafter roofing and iron-clad heads. The temple was maintained in order, in 1989 it was returned to the believers.

To a pillarless two-height quadrangle, which is oriented along the transverse axis and crowned with a low attic tier with a four-slope roof and one dome, the reduced volumes of an almost square refectory and a semicircular apse were added. Near the western wall of the refectory there is a slightly bulky hipped-roof bell tower, which is an octagonal pillar placed on a quadrangle. The windows of the side facades of the main quadrangle have arched lintels, columns on the sides and high-rise weddings, form a symmetrical pyramidal composition: two - below and one, larger - in the second light along the axis of the facade. The same window is located on the facades of the refectory.

The attic tier, clearly reduced in plan, is decorated with arches of decorative kokoshniks that support stepped consoles. There are bending blades at the corners. Rows of saws and teeth form cornices. The look is complemented by curb belts in the plinth and under the bell ringing tier. The lower tier of the bell tower with an arch-like entrance, circled archivolt, serves as a vestibule. The tent is cut through with two rows of rumors.

The temple premises are united by wide arched openings. The quadruple overlaps the closed vault, the apse - the conch, the refectory - the half-tray. The painting on the interior walls is whitewashed. Metlakh slabs cover the floors.
