Photo and description

The Greek island of Paros is part of the Cyclades archipelago. Recently, it has become increasingly popular with travelers, which has a positive impact on the development of tourist infrastructure. The picturesque small villages of the island have returned from oblivion and began to develop.

One of the most beautiful settlements in Paros is the small town of Lefkes. It is located in the central part of the island 11 km southeast of Parikya. Lefkes has only about 500 local residents, and the city itself is built on a green hill overgrown with olive trees and pine trees. From the top of the hill, there are stunning panoramic views of the island of Naxos.

The settlement existed in these places since the Middle Ages. From that era, beautiful religious temples and some architectural structures of the Venetian era have survived. The settlement reached its highest prosperity and economic development at the end of the 19th century, when Lefkes was the administrative center of the municipality of Iria. But in the 1970s, during a period of global urbanization, many residents moved to Athens and other major cities. Only in recent years, when Paros began to actively develop in the field of tourism, life in the city received a new impetus. In general, Lefkes is today a typical Cycladic town. Narrow streets, white houses with typical Cycladic blue doors and shutters on the windows retain their authenticity and create a cozy atmosphere.

The main temple of Lefkes is the Church of the Holy Trinity (Agia Triada). It is a beautiful Byzantine temple made of gorgeous white marble that shines and shimmers in the sun. It houses unique Byzantine icons of high artistic value. The Folk Art Museum and the Aegean Museum are also worth visiting in Lefkes.
